Astro-Med Posts Net Sales Of $14.6 Million For Q1 Fiscal 2010

Astro-Med, Inc. (Astro-Med) has reported net sales of $14.6 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2010, compared with the net sales of $18.6 million in the year-ago quarter. It also reported a net loss of $0.23 million, or $0.03 loss per diluted share, for the first quarter of fiscal 2010, compared with the net income of $0.89 million, or $0.12 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.

L&K Announces Investigation Against VNUS

The law firm of Levi & Korsinsky LLP (L&K) announced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of VNUS Medical Technologies, Inc. (VNUS). L&K is investigating potential claims against the board of directors of VNUS, concerning possible breaches of their duties and other violations of law related to their agreement to sell the company to Covidien Ltd for $29 per share.

Cordis’ Nevo Sirolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent Shows Superior Results In Comparison To Taxus Liberte Stent

At six months, the NEVO Sirolimus-eluting Coronary Stent, incorporating RES Technology, was superior to the Taxus Liberte Stent in reducing tissue growth within the stent that can potentially lead to repeat procedures, in new clinical study results released. In addition, no reports of stent thrombosis were reported in patients treated with NEVO through six months.

Medtronic To Reduce Global Workforce

Medtronic, Inc. (Medtronic) plans to reduce its global workforce by 1,500 to 1,800 employees, in an effort to streamline operations and to further align the company with its long-term growth outlook. This reduction includes about 400 US employees who have accepted early retirement or voluntary separation agreements and who will complete their employment with the company by May 29, 2009. The company expects the majority of the reduction to be completed by June 30, 2009.

Cordis Presents Results Of Cypher Sirolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent During Late Breaking Clinical Trials At EuroPCR

Four-year results of a large, multi-center clinical trial show that earlier results favoring the CYPHER Sirolimus-eluting Coronary Stent over bare metal stents (BMS) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) were maintained in long-term follow-up. In addition, there were no differences in key safety measures between the CYPHER Stent and BMS.
